Devotions Take Time for Yourself
Today after the kids and hubby went to school and work, I went to the grocery store to pick up some milk. I cruised the bakery aisle and, lo and behold, displayed in a cute little plastic container was a piece of my favorite cake- Carrot cake. I thought, "Well, doesn't that look tasty! And the thing that will go best with this is a 'Chick Flick'". That's just what I did today, before my kids came home, I watched "Simon Burch" - a wonderful movie! OF course I did put in a few loads of laundry and was able to START cleaning the house. I couldn't let them think I didn't do anything, could I? I know many of you are working mothers, and couldn't do what I did today, but the point is to make time for yourself. Have any of you done this or something similar before? Did you feel guilty afterwards? Well, I surely didn't! I am a person who strongly believes that taking care of yourself will help you be a better wife and mother. It isn't a new idea - it's been going around for years. Not many people partake in it though. The way I make time for myself is by going to the gym after the kids go to school in the morning, splurging on a good book, a great cup of coffee, and spending time with friends - quality time, without the kids. My husband and I also go out on a date night once a month - that is realistic and affordable. I honestly do the things I enjoy, and I make time for them. Getting exercise helps me feel better - I'm in a better mood because I have the energy to get through the day and I feel good about myself. I love to read and am always searching for the next good book. I love to journal too - I'm doing that right now! I also enjoy my MOLO group, teaching Sunday School, and going to Bible study once a week. I enjoy our time together when I go out with my husband, when I can finish a conversation without the kids butting in. It gives us a chance to re-connect. And I also believe that a happy marriage makes happy kids. Being a mother is a very hard job, especially if you have to go to work on top of it. Stretching yourself to the limit will only put you over the edge, and no good can come of it. Sometimes, moms need a time out too! I encourage you to believe that you are important enough to take some time for yourself. Remember - when mommy's happy, everyone's happy!! Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you. Psalm 116:7
