Writing the Story of God in Your Life
Excerpts for this summer's workshop

This
past summer, Patror Joe led a wonderful workshop entitled "Writing the
Story of God in Your Life".  The purpose of the workshop was to guide
interested members through the process of creating a "spiritual
biography".  The work that was created was both inspirational and
instructional, as it became clear that God had a hand in writing each
one of our stories, no matter how painful, confusing, joyful, or
exciting.  what also became abundantly clear was that each of us has a
story to tell.  No matter how trivial or mundane it may seem to yoi,
someone will find your story absolutley fascinating.  We found that
even if we did not recognize it at the time, God wan in, with and under
our lives, guiding us to places and people, circumstances and
situations, that brought each of us to where we are today.

We
all encouraged Pastor Joe to offer ths workshop again in the future.  I
would urge you to attend, even if you feel you have no ab=ility to
wrote creatively.  god has a plan for each of us, sometimes we just
need to recognize it.

Here  is another excerpt from some of the faith stories:

Inge Magnuson

Our children grew through elementary school, Jr. High and High School with the accompanying activities- scouts, soccer, baseball, Sunday School, VBS, confirmation and church camp.  Meanwhile, Jim continued to work in aerospace, following contracts to various companies, but always in our local area, so we didn’t have to move again.

The first year our son, Andy, attended college he became sick with a very high temperature.  When the flu-like symptoms ended, he got a tingling sensation throughout his body.  Within a day or two he could no longer walk and his muscular system was weak all over.  He was diagnosed with Guillain Barre’ Syndrome, a condition that attacks one’s muscles (one’s biggest muscle being your heart and then your lungs – fortunately, Andy escaped that) and spent the next six months in the hospital and rehab, learning to walk all over again!

That first day, while the neurologists were testing him, etc., I was walking the halls of the hospital and discovered a melody going through my head.  I stopped to figure out what it was and realized it was part of our liturgy – “cast thy burdens upon the Lord and He will sustain you, etc.” .  Oh what joy in repetition and memory!!!  We claimed the scripture “Ask and you shall receive”—and we did.  Oh, it took more than those months in the hospital for him to recover, but eventually he tossed the wheelchair, then the crutches, the leg braces, and finally the leg supports.

Yes, he still has some residual lower leg weakness, but for a 19-year-old boy trying to figure out what to do with his life, I know the Lord was there upholding him and leading him into the career he has today.  Without that career he probably would not have moved to Ohio where he met his wife at a chance encounter.
