Global MissionCameroon The Protestant Hospital, owned by the Lutheran Church of Cameroon, has a capacity of 220 beds and serves both the people of Ngaoundere and people living in outlying rural areas and small villages. During a visit there, it was apparent that the hospital was in dire need of a generator. The hospital’s purpose is to share the love of Christ as it provides healing and health services to a great number of people, many of whom are not Christian. After a visit there by our Senior Pastor, it became our goal to provide them with the new generator. Through the generous gifts of our congregation, enough money was raised to not only provide a new generator, but to cover shipping charges, costs of installation, setup, and wiring connections. We have a growing relationship with this hospital and the doctors serving there and continue to support and pray for them. Lutheran World Relief Every day, in 35 countries, Lutheran World Relief works to combat the causes of poverty and the dignity it robs from people’s lives. In working with partners such as ours, this organization helps people grow food, improve health, strengthen weakened communities, end conflict, build livelihoods, and recover from disasters. Lutheran World Relief says, "Our partners help us remain incredibly efficient and effective. Our partners let us help people help themselves…” As a church we have engaged in Lutheran World Relief efforts by offering financial support and prayers from members of our congregation. For more information on the many projects supported by Lutheran World Relief, please visit their website at www.LWR.org. World Hunger The international work of ELCA (Evangelical Church of America) World Hunger Relief Appeal is carried out with trusted partners, notably Lutheran World Relief and the Lutheran World Federation. ELCA World Hunger is a comprehensive and sustainable program that uses multiple strategies – relief, development, education, and advocacy – to address the root causes of hunger and poverty. As a church we have responded to the World Hunger Appeal and in correlation to our mission here at Christ Lutheran Church, our prayer is to grow in service to the needs of neighbors around the world. More information about how we can respond to World Hunger can be found here. Guatemala Pencil Project The mission of the Pencil Project is to help the highland children of Chichicastenango, Guatemala obtain the supplies needed to attend school. The Pencil Project continues in it original purpose because many of the Guatemalan highland villages exist on a barter economy and any cash for school supplies, even for a pencil, is difficult to come by. Without at least a pencil, children cannot go to school and are instead sent to pick coffee beans on the surrounding coffee plantations. For the price of a pencil, we can change the life of a child in this third world country. China Services Ventures With roots in China and the United States, China Services Ventures strives to touch lives through the development of relationships – between groups and individuals – resulting in prayer, the exchange of people and resources, projects, and a faith in Christ. Currently the China Service Ventures’ projects are divided into five categories (or ventures). They include: Development, Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Health & Nutrition and Youth Outreach. As a church, we have responded in kind by providing prayerful interest and financial support to programs outlined by China Service Ventures. |
